I took my son Giancarlo (very soon to be 5 years-old) to see his first feature film "Spiderman 3" in the theatre, with my father and sister-in-law. He did awesome, no running to the bathroom, I only had to step out once to run and get him some overpriced water.
The next day we had his birthday party, with family, once he realized that if we invited his classmates he couldn't sit in his room and play with his toys with three or four of his select buds he turned down having a kids party.
